DENVER (KDVR) — The wait for the “Disneyland of Mexican restaurants” is nearly over. Starting Sept. 16, Casa Bonita, a Colorado landmark and beloved restaurant, will begin accepting reservations from the general public.
It’s been a little over a year since Casa Bonita allowed its first visitors back inside the famed and eye-catching pink walls of its Lakewood location on Colfax. The restaurant, purchased by the creators of South Park in August 2021, was featured in an episode of the show, spurring its fame.
The wait to eat at the restaurant has been long for fans if they weren’t able to get a “golden ticket” to schedule a reservation at the restaurant since its reopening in May 2023.
The two South Park creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, worked alongside renowned Denver chef Dana Rodriguez to rebuild the restaurant’s kitchen from the ground up — fixing its reputation for bad food. The pair also implemented a wait list, sending email links to those who signed up for reservations.
Starting at 3 p.m. on Sept. 16, anyone will be able to make reservations through the website to eat at the restaurant, with reservations allowed to be scheduled as early as Oct. 1. Anyone who still has an invitation link will be able to schedule their reservation at the restaurant through Sept. 30.
The owners also teased new changes at the restaurant come Oct. 1, which they said include “enhancing” the food menu and ensuring that guests do not need to pay for their experience before arriving, and all will receive table service. However, everyone who is 3 years old or older will be required to order an entree — which costs between $29.99 and $39.99, depending on the time of day.
What else is changing? The pair left that a mystery.
“Much of your Casa Bonita experience will remain the same, creating great memories for all. Following your meal, you’ll go on to enjoy our adventurous world of exploration, entertainment and play,” the website states.
With entertainment already in play, including cliff divers, Black Bart’s Cave, live mariachi, the gorilla and puppet shows, it’s unclear what Casa Bonita has in store for guests after Oct. 1.
