Barry Williams just dropped a major bombshell about his time starring in the Brady Bunch, confessing that the cast ‘all hooked up’ during filming.
The beloved series ran on ABC for five seasons between 1969 and 1974, following the story of Mike Brady (Robert Reed) and Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) as they blend their families and bring their six children under one roof.
It became a hit with fans and spawned two successful film spin-offs, starring Shelley Long, Gary Cole and Christine Taylor.
Unpacking his stint on the small screen, Williams – aka Greg Brady, the eldest of Mike’s three sons – shed light on what went on behind the scenes.
‘We all hooked up with each other at some point,’ he told Us Weekly. ‘Not necessarily while we were filming.
‘I dated Maureen [McCormick], and Chris [Knight] dated Eve [Plum] and Michael [Lookinland] and Susan [Olsen] had a little mock wedding at one point. So, yes, we all hooked up.’
As well as dating McCormick, who played his step-sister, Williams shared that he was attracted to on-screen step-mom, Henderson, and they even enjoyed an evening out together.
‘I had a teenage crush on her, for sure, And she’s got a very lively personality and great sense of humor, but I knew that I wanted to have music in my career [in] acting, and so I talked to her a lot about that,’ he continued.
‘I had found this singer coming into the Copacabana near Beverly Hills. I can’t think of exactly where it was, but I invited her to go together as a date, and she said, “Okay,” so I was thrilled. And now for me, it was a date.’
Henderson, who died in 2016, had her say on her younger co-star’s affections in a chat with People Magazine.
‘He had a crush on me, and he asked me out for a date, which I’ll never forget,’ she said in 1991. ‘The crush was a very serious thing for him, so I was never condescending.
‘I certainly liked him too, but I wasn’t exactly the Cher of the TV mom set.’
McCormick previously lifted the lid on her stint as Marcia Brady in her 2008 memoir, explaining that her close working relationship with Barry intensified during a cast trip to Hawaii.
‘As soon as I stepped off the plane, I started to think about him more intensely in the way I had fantasized for a long time,’ she wrote in Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My Voice, via Us Weekly.
‘We had spent the past three and a half years staving off the desire of a mutual attraction despite the intimacy of working closely with each other every day.’
She added to the outlet of playing the iconic character: ‘The show will just always hold a super warm spot in my heart.
‘It’s just an amazing bond so I feel very lucky to have that.’
