(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said that 50 gallons of diesel have spilled into the stormwater drain and into Shooks Run Creek after an earlier crash on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the intersection of East Las Animas Street and Wahsatch Avenue.
“Hazmat 14 has placed sorbent socks to stop it from spreading further down the creek,” wrote CSFD. “Resources have been ordered including a vacuum truck and reclamation team to mitigate the issue.”
CSFD responding to crash and diesel spill near Shooks Run

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is responding to a crash near Shooks Run Park that resulted in more than 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilling from a truck.
CSFD posted about the crash shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, and said crews were responding to a crash at the intersection of East Las Animas Street and Wahsatch Avenue, on the southwest edge of Shooks Run Park. CSFD said a 100-gallon diesel tank on a truck had been punctured during the crash, and at least 50 gallons of fuel had spilled.
CSFD said city stormwater crews were responding to assess the impact of the spill.
Las Animas and Wahsatch are both closed due to the crash, and community members are asked to avoid the area.
