(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said on Sunday, Sept. 1, a motorcyclist allegedly broke the barricades on Pikes Peak Avenue and then later tried to run from officers when questioned.
CSPD said on Sunday, at around 7:30 p.m., officers working at the Labor Day Lift Off/Balloon Glow event at Memorial Park reported a motorcyclist had broken the barricades eastbound on Pikes Peak Avenue at Hancock Avenue.
The Lift Off Supervisor, along with two motorcycle officers found the motorcyclist, identified as Christopher Easton, at Pikes Peak and Farragut Avenues. CSPD said Easton was initially cooperative, but when officers were verifying Easton was the same rider who went through the barricades, he tried to drive off.
CSPD said an officer pushed the motorcyclist to stop them from hitting him, a cruiser, and two CSPD motorcycles. Easton then tried to run on foot but was chased by a CSPD officer who caught them and Easton was arrested.
The officer was taken to the hospital, treated for bodily injury, and released. Easton was booked into the Criminal Justice Center for Eluding and other charges.
“All motorists are reminded of the high traffic volume around this event and the road closures are designed to protect pedestrians crossing into and out of the event,” writes CSPD
