The trial against alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack is set to continue on Monday, with the spotlight on the co-accused, former Anti-Gang Unit member Ashley Tabisher.
Tabisher said he was coerced into making a statement about his involvement in the case, with the promise of being released on bail.
The former cop, along with Modack and 14 others, faces various charges for crimes including murder, extortion, money laundering, and fraud.
Tabisher faces charges of corruption for allegedly giving Modack inside information about the Anti-Gang Unit’s operations and raids.
After his arrest in 2021, Tabisher said police coerced him into making a warning statement with the promise of being released on bail.
Last week, Judge Robert Henney postponed proceedings for the State to prove the statement was admissible in court.
The State will on Monday decide whether Tabisher’s statement can be used as evidence against him.
