“Overcrowded & overpriced” – Bukit Bintang Listed Among Top 10 Most Overrated Destinations in Asia

According to the Times of India (TOI), Bukit Bintang is “crowned” as one of the most overrated destinations, despite being one of the most popular places for shopping and nightlife.

However, due to the congestion caused by cars and humans, noise pollution, and not to mention the overpriced goods that are being sold there, Bukit Bintang has earned the 10th spot as one of Asia’s most overrated destinations.

In fact, food and souvenirs at Bukit Bintang are often sold at higher prices, adding to the sentiment that this destination may not be as affordable as some claim it to be.

The overrated destination that comes right before Bukit Bintang is the Taj Mahal in India, which, despite being one of the seven wonders of the world, some travellers find to be overcrowded and the surrounding areas over-commercialised.

Coming in at the top of the list is a place that many of us have likely been to or heard of: Phuket, Thailand.

Crowned as the MOST overrated destination in Asia, TOI claims that the place has become overly commercialised.

“The beaches are always overcrowded, the traffic is difficult to navigate, and many areas lack authentic experiences.”

Here’s the complete list of destinations that have been deemed overrated by TOI, in order.

  1. Phuket, Thailand
  2. Bali, Indonesia (packed with resorts and restaurants, losing the serene atmosphere)
  3. The Great Wall of China (overcrowded)
  4. Baga Beach, India (overcrowded)
  5. Ha Long Bay, Vietnam (water pollution due to tourist boats)
