Paralympic Games celebrated at Olympic Museum

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The 2024 Paris Paralympic Games are underway and on Saturday, Aug. 31, the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs hosted the community to cheer on Team USA.

The Paralympic Day Celebration included a chance to meet Paralympians and participate in wheelchair basketball. More than four thousand athletes are competing at this year’s Paralympics.

“Not only do we want to be recognized for our achievements and our competitive nature on the field, but we also want to be recognized and acknowledged for our achievements and accomplishments off the field, as well, as members of Team USA who represent the red, white and blue all over the world,” said Billy Lister, 2016 Paralympic Cyclist.

“Getting people involved in sports and our programs is really what we want,” said Kate Noonan, Special Events Director at the YMCA Pikes Peak Region. “We want to have partners like the Olympic Museum because it’s just so important that we’re promoting our kids to get into these sports because one day they might be a paralympic athlete or an Olympian.”

Through Sunday, Sept. 8, the museum will have live coverage of the games on its 40-foot-LED wall and daily artifact demonstrations of the history of the Paralympic games as part of its Paris Summer Fest celebration.
