Outraged fans have complained after The Last Dinner Party cancelled their gig with only half an hour to go ‘due to illness’.

The Brixton-based indie rock group have been rising in popularity — amid accusations of being an ‘industry plant — and were even given a nod at the Brit Awards.

However, the group, comprised of Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci, have angered gig-goers with this very last-minute cancellation.

The Last Dinner Party were scheduled to perform on Saturday, September 28, at the Engine Shed in Lincoln but did not take to the stage, despite the support acts reportedly performing.

Just four before the cancellation, the venue had even advertised on Instagram that a limited run of extra tickets was on sale.

‘With great regret, tonight’s performance at Lincoln Engine Shed has had to be cancelled at late notice due to illness,’ the venue wrote on social media.

They advised fans to keep hold of their tickets and promised an announcement would be made at a later date but they were attempting to reschedule.

By the time the announcement was released, expectant fans had already queued, entered the venue, watched two support acts, and waited for an hour.

They took to X to vent about the incredibly late notice, with Chris Kirkwood writing: ‘Well that was an odd evening. Engine Shed was fuller than full for The Last Dinner Party.

‘Two support acts came and went, and then waiting for an hour. At 9.30 announcement finally that due to illness show cancelled. I’m now the owner of a t-shirt for a gig that wasn’t.’

Sara Jackson added: ‘Cancelled at last minute with no notice very disappointed tonight 😡.’

‘Not a single word of apology issued to the thousand people stood in the engine shed that were expecting you at 9pm last night and no announcement was made until 9:30? Appalling,’ wrote Freya.

Other strange reports then emerged of single men attending the concert being pulled aside, searched, and quizzed about their knowledge of the band.

Gig-goer Dan (@alittlebitofdan) wrote: ‘Just arrived at the gig, been funnelled into a dark corner with other men, told I might be a pervert cus I’m alone and then taken into a room alone with a security guard where I was interrogated and searched. Feel sick.’

TV icon Rylan Clarke replied ‘What?’ after Dan’s tweet began to gain traction, to which the disappointed fan said he ended up leaving as the interaction ‘blindsided’ him.

Paul reported a similar situation, stating: ‘I rocked up there tonight at 8.45 on my own, no queue, I got asked how long I had liked them for, and to name my favourite song. I thought it was a bit strange and the first time I’ve ever felt like I’m on mastermind to get into a gig. Now I’ve read this I understand why now’.

Kam Zaki added: ‘Same here, I queued for 7 hours to get to barrier as I am 4′ 11′, got whisked away, searched, asked condescending questions, didn’t get to barrier, best not, show cancelled.’

The Last Dinner Party and Engine Room are yet to address any stop-and-search issues but the band has since cancelled its Cardiff, Wales, concert tonight (Sunday, September 29).

Without commenting on the Lincoln cancellation, they wrote on Instagram: ‘With great regret, tonight’s performance at the Cardiff Tramshed is cancelled due to illness.

‘We are truly sorry for those of you that were looking forward to the show. Thank you for understanding we appreciate you guys so much and we look forward to seeing you next time.

‘Please keep a hold of your tickets for the show and a further announcement will be made as soon as possible.’
