Thailand has secured a top spot in cultural heritage, ranking eighth out of 89 countries, according to a recent US News & World report. This prestigious ranking catapults Thailand into the elite league of culturally rich nations, celebrated for its vibrant traditions and historical significance.

The American media powerhouse determined the rankings based on five crucial attributes: cultural accessibility, rich history, exceptional cuisine, cultural attractions, and breathtaking geographical landmarks. Topping the leaderboard is Greece, followed closely by Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, Mexico, Egypt, and, of course, our beloved Thailand.

Despite being one of the globe’s hottest tourist spots, with millions flocking to its shores, tourism only accounts for a modest 7% of Thailand’s gross domestic product.

The kingdom dazzles with a captivating blend of buzzing modern cities, ancient ruins, stunning beaches, and opulent temples, said the US News & World.

“Buddha figures are ever-present in the ‘Land of Smiles,’ where lively urban life harmonises with serene historical sites, sparkling coastlines, and gilded temples. The nation is famed for its traditional Thai massage and cuisine, a masterclass balancing sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy flavours.”

Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol couldn’t hide her delight at the ranking, asserting it will elevate Thailand’s global image and entice even more international visitors.

“The government is prioritising the development and promotion of soft power, aiming to establish Thailand as a major player on the world stage.”

To support this ambitious vision, a flurry of festivals is lined up from now until the year’s end, showcasing the country’s rich cultural tapestry.

Tomorrow, the enchanting Loy Krathong festival will light up key tourist hotspots like Chiang Mai and Sukhothai. Plus, the spectacular elephant round-up festival in Surin is set for November 16-17. Not to mention, a host of new year countdown events and an array of cultural, sports, music, and food festivals will be taking place across the provinces.

These vibrant celebrations not only honour Thailand’s unique cultural heritage but also solidify its status as a must-visit destination for those seeking diverse and enriching experiences. With this newfound recognition, Thailand is poised to capture the world’s imagination, inviting visitors to explore its many wonders.
