ST. LOUIS – Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred early Monday morning in north St. Louis, where a woman was struck by a car at the intersection of Grand and Hebert.

The incident happened just after 12 a.m. early Monday morning. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police, the 63-year-old woman was attempting to cross Grand Boulevard when she was hit by a red Mercury Grand Marquis.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was traveling south on Grand and had a green light. The woman, however, was not in a crosswalk at the time she was struck.

A bystander at the scene told FOX 2 the woman had just left a nearby bar before this happened. The area is located just south of Fairgrounds Park in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.

EMS transported the woman to a hospital, where she is currently in critical but stable condition. Police have not yet confirmed whether she will survive.

The driver of the Mercury remained at the scene and is cooperated with police. The car’s windshield was shattered in the impact, and the St. Louis Fire Department, police, and EMS all responded to the scene.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team and the Evidence Technician Unit (ETU) were also called to the scene, indicating the severity of the woman’s injuries.

North Grand Boulevard was temporarily closed in both directions between Sullivan and Palm as investigators worked to process the scene. That section of road has since been reopened.
